Ford’s new cylinder deactivation technology - first announced for the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine and a world first for a three-cylinder engine - will further improve fuel efficiency for Ford Fiesta ST customers without affecting performance by automatically stopping fuel delivery and valve operation for one of the engine’s cylinders in conditions where full capacity is not needed, such as when coasting or cruising with light demand on the engine. The technology can disengage or re-engage one cylinder in 14 milliseconds - 20 times faster than the blink of an eye - to seamlessly deliver full performance on demand. The all-aluminium engine also features an integrated exhaust manifold that improves efficiency by helping the engine reach optimal temperatures faster, and delivers torque more rapidly by minimising the distance exhaust gasses travel between cylinders and turbocharger. Gas particulate filter technology that reduces soot emissions will also feature.
The all-new Ford Expedition is the first full-size utility to feature a sliding second-row seat with tip-and-slide functionality, providing easy access to the third row without the need to first remove a child safety seat. Once in the third row, even adults will appreciate more legroom and reclining seats. Expedition‘s second- and third-row seats can be quickly folded flat with the push of a button to open up a cargo area wide enough to handle 4x8-foot sheets of plywood and other gear, depending on cargo weight and load distribution, even with the liftgate closed.
Also revealed was the stylish Fiesta Titanium, indicative of the high specification and quality that will be delivered to Fiesta customers across Europe. Higher specification Ford models accounted for nearly 60 per cent of sales in the first 10 months of 2016. Titanium models account for 48 per cent of Fiestas sold this year. Fiesta will also be available in a Trend version. "Registrations of high-specification B-segment models have grown 24 per cent year-on-year, and at the same time, demand for entry level models has grown 11 per cent," said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe. "Ford now offers greater choice for B-segment customers, providing exceptional value with the new KA+, while delivering a next generation Fiesta family of highly engaging, personalised models."
