Hydraulic engine mounts, electronic throttle control, adaptive exhaust systems, improved aerodynamics and other technologies help the engines operate in four-cylinder mode for longer periods of time with Active Fuel Management, further increasing efficiency. Combining a decidedly urban-industrial design aesthetic with functionality aimed at young professionals, the GMC Granite Concept takes the brand trademark capability in a new, more progressive direction. It was introduced at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
Also available is the all-new 2.8L Duramax turbo-diesel, which includes a maximum trailering rating of up to 7,700 pounds (3,493 kg) and EPA-estimated fuel economy of 31 mpg highway (2WD). It is the cleanest diesel truck engine ever produced by General Motors and meets some of the toughest U.S. emissions standards, thanks in part to a cooled exhaust gas recirculation system. The engine is paired with the Hydra-Matic 6L50 six-speed automatic transmission, which uses a unique Centrifugal Pendulum Vibration Absorber in the torque converter to reduce powertrain noise and vibration. Diesel models also feature smart diesel exhaust braking and an integrated trailer brake controller. Smart diesel exhaust braking enhances vehicle control and reduces brake wear by varying the amount of brakes needed for the vehicle, load and grade. The integrated trailer brake controller system works with the anti-lock brake system to provide immediate and measured brake force with the electronically controlled trailer brake system.
The 2018 GMC Terrain goes on sale in summer 2017 in SL, SLE, SLT and Denali models, maintaining the momentum created by the first-generation model, of which more than 700,000 have been sold in North America since it went on sale in 2009. The new GMC Terrains bold exterior signals the next chapter of GMCs design language, evolving the brands signature cues with stronger, sharper and more sculpted elements such as the grille and lighting features. Its shape was refined in the wind tunnel to help ensure the distinctive profile cuts through the air with optimal efficiency and quietness. "It is a striking design with functional beauty," said Helen Emsley, executive director, Global GMC Design. "Theres confidence and optimism in its stance, with exceptional attention to detail that speaks to GMCs rise as a premium brand."
"GMC is a strong, growing premium brand and the Acadia is a cornerstone of our success story," said Duncan Aldred, vice president of GMC Sales and Marketing. "The all-new Acadia leverages GMC proven SUV experience to take on and shake up one of the largest vehicle segments, with a strong blend of design, technology and capability." The new GMC Acadia goes on sale in spring 2016, almost a decade after its original introduction, and coming off of its strongest sales year ever in 2015 with 96,393 deliveries.
